Recording journal days 1-10

day 1
we're living in a van, you know what they say.. a road dog is a road dog is a road dog. After a busking tour, I am at Dave's revolution studio.. where it all begins.. where the stories can be documented. I light the sage. Dave whips out the Neuman, lee grabs the guitar and hands me the headphones and within a blink of an eye.. possession joins in to reclaim her identity. I think we heard david bowie in the background somewhere.

day 2
awake to a very australian dish.. toast, butter, and vegimite.. I add avacado which I find very tasty. it's chilly and windy out and within the studio i can hear the whispering. i don't really have a set list for the songs on the album because they just kinda show up on the day. today the sound is secretless, she's wanted to come out of the closet yesterday but possession had to re-prioritize. Leigh's subconciously envoking the rolling stones..

day 3
awwh.. good morning. going into the studio now. (cont) there is alot of discipline and hard work that goes into music creation, but today was one of those smooth waves with offshore winds. I had written this song on my lil' mac whilst sitting in starbucks having a coffee a week ago. I wasn't really familiar with her like with some of the other songs that have been with me for years. dear sir, this is one of those songs that once it starts.. it just keeps going. The beetles comes to mind in that tamborine!

day 4
manna. she's definitely present but she's grown a lot since i wrote her so she has a very different tone of voice with me now. there is a strength and courage required in this holding the polar opposites.. both hathor and skemhet. i would imagine it's like trying to give birth.. or shit a watermelon.. possibly both.

day 5
today i have alot of yang energy present, this fire within so I'm deciding there is none other than double helix to work with. She is the story of this fierce mother lioness climbing up a spiral staircase and in union with friends discovers the creation of energy through will and desire. I called in another guitarist friend of mine, Rob, to create an atmospheric essence in the song.

day 6
somedays are smoother than others and i feel this is one of those fiesty moments where the song really wants us to do back flips for an encore! I told david this morning and we've been working hard on her lil' outfit.. leigh put these amaizing guitar riffs in and brought her to life! We'll have to put vocals in next day.

day 7
I am so happy today because my mother is here to visit and i have brought her to the studio to be involved vocally in one of my songs. first I sang colour solo.. we wanted to capture a very raw take with no edits. I wrote this song busking on the streets watching everyone walk by in robo mode and I just wanted to share with them something so beautiful that I was experiencing. I wanted to capture the solitude I felt when I was busking. I'm putting my vocal tracks down next for Spirit My Way. (cont) whew.. two songs done today. My mom is in this song.. see if you can pick her out! The very last word of the song is Mothers!

day 8
were getting closer and closer to completing the album. I wish I could record an album for two months strait.. ! I brought some more loops in to give this girl a rhythm. I really love percussion! Yakshini stems from Indian Mythology. Yakshini's used to protect the king but some fell from grace and became tricksters to vagabonds on their spiritual journies. The song recognises that by fooling her, the Yakshini is only fooling himself because they are one. This is a song about connecting.

day 9
dave really was hard on me today and gave me some good vocal insight that maybe i didn't want to see now but i will forever thank him for bringing to my awareness. we also created some off beat rhythms and played around with it. Socrates is about asking the question and allowing ourselves to answer. This was the philosophers technique. This song asks what we need as a small community, as a human society, as an individual...and I'll leave it at that.

day 10
last but certainly not least on the album, we are recording composition today! This song, I wrote about a guy 3 years ago.. it's funny how we relate to the songs change as we pull from different experiences in life. This was very relevant to me then and is very relevant to me now for different reasons. Today, I see these two friends of mine and it reminds me so much of them and I realize it's necessary for me to serve this song to grow in my own heart. This is a good rite of passage for my dream. At the end of the day we have all done such an amazing job in such a short time! I am so proud of the team for really pulling through and making it happen! Mwah to ya'll and the universe!
